The 25-year-old Zhang Mengxue won China's first gold at the Rio Olympics by claiming the women's 10m air pistol title. She placed the seventh in the qualification to get into the final, and all her first four shots were below 10. Zhang took the lead after the 11th and 12th shots, and she managed to broaden the lead by every shooting round.
Two-time Olympic champion Guo Wenjun was considered as the top favorite, but the veteran didn't survive the qualification stage. Guo shot 378 points and finished her third Olympics with the 30th place.
China secured the first diving gold medal of the Rio Olympics when Wu Minxia and Shi Tingmao won the women's synchronised 3m springboard. The pair scored 345.60 points from five dives, some 31.77 points ahead of silver medallists from Italy.

Long's total weight broke the 16-year-old record of 305 kg set by Turkey's Halil Mutlu at the Sydney Games in 2000.
