What Requirements Do IVD Equipment Door Components Need to Meet? From Secure Door Fixing to Easy Operation

IVD, short for In Vitro Diagnostics, refers to products, instruments, and systems used to test and analyze biological samples such as blood, urine, and tissue outside the human body. Common applications include blood testing, immunoassay, biochemical analysis, and molecular diagnostics. As IVD equipment becomes more automated, integrated, and intelligent, more functional modules need to be incorporated into limited equipment space while maintaining convenient operation, cleaning, and maintenance. As a result, the design of equipment doors and their hardware components is becoming increasingly important.

Why Do IVD Equipment Doors Need Specialized Hardware?

The doors of IVD equipment not only provide external protection but also need to support daily operation, equipment maintenance, and access to internal modules. Operators may need to open doors or inspection panels frequently, making it important to balance secure fastening with ease of operation.

Door panels also typically work together with paddle latches, handles, hinges, and ball catches. Each hardware component serves a different purpose, and the right combination can make door opening, closing, and fixing smoother while improving the overall user experience.

Paddle Latch: Keeping Equipment Doors Securely Closed

During operation, IVD equipment may contain motors, fans, or other moving components. The equipment doors therefore need to remain securely closed to prevent loosening or unintended movement.

A paddle latch is mainly used to secure the door after closing. It can be selected according to the equipment structure and specific installation requirements.

The ShangKun SK1-0008-ZN01 Paddle Latch, for example, features a slam-action closing structure. The door can be securely closed with a light push, making opening and closing easy and effortless. Its zinc alloy construction with a bright chrome-plated finish provides a compact and attractive appearance that can integrate naturally into the streamlined design of IVD equipment.

The latch can be used for both left- and right-hand opening configurations and can be released simply by pulling the handle with one finger. This provides reliable locking while maintaining convenient access during maintenance. It is particularly suitable for small enclosures, cabinets, electrical distribution boxes, and control side doors.

When selecting a paddle latch, factors such as door size, installation method, and actual equipment operating conditions should be considered.

Recessed Handle: Making Door Operation More Convenient

While equipment doors need to remain securely closed, they must also be easy for operators to open. An industrial handle is an important point of contact between the operator and the equipment, and its size, grip, and installation position can all affect everyday operation.

For IVD equipment, the handle needs to match the door structure while providing a convenient gripping position within a limited space.

The ShangKun SK4-0033 Recessed Handle features a one-touch installation design for convenient assembly. Its recessed structure minimizes surface protrusion, helping prevent interference with surrounding components while reducing space requirements. This makes it particularly suitable for compact IVD equipment layouts.

Made from ABS+PC, the handle is available in black and ivory, offering a clean appearance that can complement different equipment designs. Multiple sizes and versions for different panel thicknesses are also available, allowing the handle to be matched to different door and panel structures.

A suitable handle can not only improve opening and closing comfort but also integrate more naturally with the overall appearance of the equipment.

Torque Hinge: Keeping the Door Stable at the Desired Angle

Some IVD equipment doors and covers need to remain in a specific position when opened, allowing operators to inspect or maintain internal components more conveniently. If a door moves freely or closes unexpectedly, it can interfere with maintenance work.

A torque hinge can control door movement through its torque mechanism, allowing smoother opening and enabling the door to remain at the desired angle.

The ShangKun SK2-0006 Torque Hinge is made of SUS304 stainless steel with a vibration-polished finish. The cover can stay at any angle within its operating range, while the torque remains constant. With an opening angle of up to 180°, it is particularly suitable for small inspection covers and upward- or downward-opening covers used in IVD and other medical equipment.

For equipment that requires frequent access to internal components, a torque hinge can help reduce uncontrolled door movement while providing a more convenient working space for operators.

Ball Catch: Helping with Quick Door Positioning and Closing

For some IVD equipment doors, covers, and inspection panels that do not require independent locking, convenient opening and stable positioning are more important.

A ball catch uses a mechanical ball mechanism to position and hold the panel after closing while allowing it to be released smoothly when needed.

The ShangKun SK5-0018 Ball Catch is made of SUS304 stainless steel, providing good corrosion resistance and suitability for humid or high-temperature environments. Its electropolished surface provides smooth insertion and removal, while multiple specifications are available to meet different holding-force requirements.

By selecting an appropriate holding force according to the panel structure and operating requirements, the ball catch can provide a simple push-to-close and pull-to-open experience.

This type of hardware is suitable for equipment panels that require frequent operation, helping simplify the opening and closing process while maintaining a clean overall appearance.

For IVD equipment manufacturers, selecting and combining door components appropriately during the design stage can make equipment easier to operate and maintain while balancing compact design with overall structural reliability.
